Mar 24 - "Gone Wanderin'" - Live at the Sweetwater Last night Jackie Greene opened a six-show residency at Sweetwater Music Hall in Mill Valley, California. The first show of the Jackie Greene Band’s Spring Tour featured a complete performance of the singer-songwriter’s 2002 album Gone Wanderin’ as well as several special covers regularly played back when the record was initially released.
Greene and his band made up of bassist Jon Cornell, drummer Fitz Harris, guitarist Nathan Dale and Jason Crosby adding fiddle and keyboards had previously announced that the Sweetwater residency would feature the complete performance of six of the multi-instrumentalist’s studio albums. Friday’s show started with a track-by-track rendering of the 12 songs making up Gone Wanderin’, beginning with the title track and progressing to the closing “The Ballad of Sleepy John.”
The second set featured a sequence of cover songs that were regularly played by Greene back in 2002 when his first LP came out. The set included blues staples “Messin’ With the Kid,” “She’s Nineteen Years Old” and “Got My Mojo Working” as well as The Gourds’ arrangement of Snoop Dogg’s “Gin & Juice.” The band ended the set with a take on “Georgia” off Jackie’s debut LP Rusty Nails. Greene encored with a solo rendition of “Goodnight, Irene.”
