Ladies and Gentlemen, Introducing Trigger Hippy

Hello friends,

I just got back from an awesome gig in Woodstock with Phil Lesh and his sons Brian and Grahame. I got to hang out with my old pals Larry and Teresa. Joey Russo was back on the skins kicking some serious ass. Fun times, all around. Of course, the Levon Helm band killed it (as usual). Danny Louis and Marco Benevento were also in the house and tore up a few numbers. For those of you who have never been to a Midnight Ramble….GO TO ONE! You won’t regret it. It’s just about the most fun you can have with your pants on.

In other news, I’m excited to tell you that I joined a group called Trigger Hippy. We’ve been rehearsing some in Nasvhille and have some select dates planned for summer. It’s an awesome lineup: Steve Gorman, Nick Govrik, Joan Osborne, Audley Freed and little ol’ me. Check us out: www.triggerhippy.net Look out ya’ll!! We be on the facebook as well.

There are still some tickets left for the Swedish American Hall shows in San Francisco. These are special acoustic shows and I’m going to try and focus some attention on the unreleased songs from my lyrics book that just came out. We’ll have copies for sale at the show if you wanna check it out.

Wow, talk about a 180. I got a call from the Basement this morning with an offer of help getting a ticket and a very friendly conversation with Mike, who I guess runs the place. Couldn’t have been nicer, and he explained that the Basement almost never hosts national acts and just aren’t set up for the intense demand that this show has produced. (Lots of out of state calls from people VERY anxious to get in to this show.) He also offered to steer me towards some good stuff in Nashville while I’m there. This must be the southern hospitality y’all talk about. :) I’m definitely going to buy the man a drink Saturday night.

Whew… Getting tix was a nightmare. Called the record store in Nashville that the Basement web site says is where tix are available, and when I said I was in California, they reacted as if I said, “I’m calling from Hitler’s grave, where I’m fucking his corpse.” They then told me they weren’t selling tix online, and that the Basement owner told his staff they were going to sell out no matter what, so he didn’t care to deal with all the out of state calls. I suggested I could pay a staff member personally by Pay Pal, so the guy on the phone shouted out — I am NOT making this up — “does anyone here have a Pay Pal account?” — and the answer was no, which news he delivered to me as if of *course* the answer was no because who knows anyone who uses complex tech stuff like that?

I hung up and called my hotel for my Nashville trip, and for an extra $20, the concierge at the hotel stopped by the record store on her way home and picked up tickets for me.

it’s a small room and I’m REALLY looking forward to the show and the new band, but I’d sure recommend a different venue next time.

First, to jrbh….the website (and calendar link) for the Nashville venue is http://www.thebasementnashville.com/calendar/2011/7
Currently, the date for Trigger Hippy’s appearance asks to “check back for ticket info”.
I’ve seen several shows at the venue; and have never bought tix in advance. Regardless, the venue is TINY…and you’ll want to arrive early.

Now, to Jackie…I am beside myself with excitement and anticipation for this run of shows with Trigger Hippy! Joan Osborne happens to be my favorite female vocalist; so the two of you singing together is going to be a real treat! But, I have to tell you; when I first found out about the dates, they coincided with a cruise (my first) that I had booked. I couldn’t believe it! Now, there was NO WAY I was going to miss these shows…so, with great difficulty, I had my trip moved to the following week! I’ll see y’all in ATL, ‘Nooga, and, of course, Bham. Workplay Theater is, imho, the BEST indoor venue in the southeast U.S. (rivaling the wonderful World Cafe Live in Philly)

    peace

Jackie — my wife & I were at the ramble. Four hours of great music. Today I’ve had “Comes a Time” stuck in my head all day. We’ve seen you there twice. The last time you were filling in for Larry. You’re a talented man — and look like you’re really enjoying the music too. Thanks for the good times.

Hi… I’m going to be in Nashville on Jul. 30 for some business and my own personal little music fest (Bob Dylan at the Ryman, Trigger Hippy at The Basement), but I am having no luck securing Trigger Hippy tix. (My plane doesn’t even get in from San Francisco til 3 the day of the show, so I’m hoping to take care of this in advance.)

Any help, advice, pointers, etc. would be greatly appreciated, and I have to say, The new Trigger Hippy line-up is like an all-star team.

One other note: KFOG played your version of the “Star Spangled Banner” on “Acoustic Sunrise” July 3… It was lovely, and this from someone who hates that song. (“This Land Is Your Land” should be the national anthem.) Anyway, you should release the version they played, which I guess they said was a rehearsal before you sang it at the ballpark.
